ROOT TREATMENT AND ENDODONTICS
Tooth preservation is our top priority.
We only remove a tooth if the tooth is no longer worth preserving. A root canal treatment becomes necessary when the nerve of a tooth, the so-called pulp, becomes inflamed and possibly dies or has already died. This is usually accompanied by severe pain, sensitivity to heat and cold and/or bite pain. But it can also happen without any symptoms. The X-ray image helps us to clarify.

The only alternative to root canal treatment is to have the tooth removed. Endodontics can preserve your natural teeth.

In order to achieve long-term treatment success, several factors must be taken into account:
-
The tooth must be preserved in the long term, ie there must be sufficient tooth substance to be able to guarantee the hold of a later crown or filling.
-
After pain treatment, the tooth must be provided with a bacteria-proof filling to prevent reinfection during the root canal treatment.

sessions and process
Usually three sessions are necessary:
-
Pre-treatment (pain treatment)
-
root canal treatment
-
root canal filling
In complicated cases, additional sessions may be necessary.
After a root canal treatment, the tooth in question often has to be crowned because it becomes brittle (comparable to a tree without a root) and otherwise there is a risk that it could break.
With the help of magnifying glasses, the practitioner can optimally look into the very small canal system and visualize the canals.
The canal system must be mechanically and chemically cleaned and disinfected down to the root tip to remove all bacteria. The different disinfectant solutions or medications have to take effect over a certain period of time.

Impedance measurement I disinfection
The length of the root canal is determined using a special impedance measurement. Mechanical cleaning (processing) is carried out using special computer-aided instruments. Files made of a highly flexible material (titanium) are used for this, so that curved canals can also be optimally processed.
The root canal is filled with precision pins. After successful root canal treatment, a stable, bacteria-proof supply of the tooth is absolutely necessary, otherwise the tooth can become reinfected or fracture.
